Jack Nicholson has been known to be one of the biggest legends in Hollywood, but the actor was also infamous for something else. The Shining actor was very outgoing and allegedly frequented parties. One older incident involving the actor cracked audiences.
Kevin Spacey has worked with some of the most well-known names in the industry and he heard a lot through the pipeline. The Outbreak actor narrated a funny incident involving the star which was told to him by a soundman. The story mentioned one of his biggest flops that also starred Marlon Brando, The Missouri Breaks.
Jack Nicholson and his love for ‘coke’: The epic story
Kevin Spacey appeared on the Lex Fridman Podcast where the actor sat down to discuss his past filmography and other controversies. While talking about the older days, the Control actor remembered a hilarious Jack Nicholson story.
Recalling the incident which was narrated to him by a sound mixer Dennis Maitland, Spacey spilled the beans to the host and audience. It happened back in the 1980s when Nicholson was shooting for John Huston’s crime film, Prizzi’s Honor. Maitland approached the Oscar winner in what transpired into a comical situation.
He said, ‘Mr Nicholson, I just wanted to tell you I’m extremely excited to be working with you again. It’s a great pleasure.’
And Jack goes, ‘Did we work together before?…What film did we do together?’
The sound man replied that they had previously worked together for his 1976 film The Missouri Breaks, which elicited an unhinged reaction from the legend. The Terms of Endearment star remembered the film but for entirely different reasons.
Nicholson goes, ‘Missouri Breaks, Jesus Christ! We were out of our minds on that film, holy sh*t! It’s a wonder I’m alive. There was so much drugs going on, we were stoned out of our minds!’
The actor hilariously only recalled being high during the filming of the Western film, which also starred Marlon Brando.
The compromised situation: Lucky save
Spacey further narrated that after talking about the unfortunate movie, the actor was about to move on as he had changed his costume. Unfortunately, while folding his pants over his arm, something surprising fell out of its pockets.
He folds the pants that he’s just taken off, over his arm and an eight of coke drops out on the floor. Dennis looks at it. Nicholson looks at it.
Jack goes, ‘Haven’t worn these pants since Missouri Breaks.’
In a swift response, the actor casually shifted the focus back to his earlier reference to being stoned during the Arthur Penn film. Nicholson’s calm and collected persona was reflected in the amusing story and Spacey mimicked the actor brilliantly.
