During a recent interview session with the author Yukinobu Tatsu, he shed some light on his creative vision behind this modern masterpiece. The series’ editor was also present in the Q&A session and said something really spicey that other Mangakas should take a note of.

It would not be wrong to say that Yukinobu Tatsu has truly become one of those manga legends whose mastery of drawing epic battle scenes has made his Dandadan manga so famous. He is consistently trying to push the boundaries of action-packed storytelling through his work. Quite unsurprisingly, his unique blend of dynamic action scenes and humorous narrative has redefined the genre, making him the benchmark for drawing battle scenes in manga.

In an interview, Shihei Lin, Dandadan’s editor, also pointed towards Tatsu as an outstanding talent at depicting battle scenes. He even claimed,

As for battle scenes, I think Yukinobu Tatsu is probably the best in Japan today. There are many moments where the camera angle was right, and the work was drawn at a level that would normally take two or three weeks to complete.

Lin was flabbergasted by how detailed the works that Tatsu drew were, even under a lot of stress. Those panels could even beat other Shonen manga art, which is published in monthly magazines. Lin believes, there are only a few people who can draw at this density. He also believed that Tatsu could reach an even wider audience, which always made him enthusiastic about the future of Dandadan.

Reading Dandadan Will Have You Laughing and Crying at The Same Time

That’s not all. The discussion continued, as the excited editor and Tatsu went on to answer the questions in much more detail. As you might already know, Dandandan is basically a funny action manga that combines hilarious moments with some heart-pulling scenes. According to Lin, it might make one laugh and shed tears while reading it, citing how great a story it holds.

The crying and sad parts are carefully drawn, so there is a dazzling moment when you find yourself crying while you are laughing.

All crying and sad parts were carefully made so that when you reach a particular moment, readers will end up crying while laughing. This aspect of the narrative makes the series truly unforgettable.

Lin also appreciates how unpredictable Tatsu can be, saying that nobody even close to him would really know what’s going to happen next. When Tatsu says something outrageous, Lin may laugh or take a step back, but whenever Lin laughs, it always hints that the idea will eventually turn into a winner. It is this creative synergy that has brought this modern masterpiece to life. With its absurdly awesome narrative, Dandadan promises its readers an exhilarating ride with plenty of surprises along the way.

Dandadan anime is available to watch on Crunchyroll Netflix.
