Ever since Brangelina got together in 2005, the duo became one of the biggest couples in Hollywood. Although everything seemed great between them until a decade later, a shock split stunned the world in 2016. With Angelina Jolie filing for divorce from Brad Pitt, fans and the media began looking for an answer to what went wrong.
From rumors that Pitt cheated once again to his marijuana use, everything came to light. However, the spotlight ended up falling on the actor’s former co-star, Marion Cotillard, who starred with him in the 2016 film, Allied.
With everyone pointing fingers at Cotillard and claiming that she had an onset relationship with the star, the 49-year-old chose to set the record straight on the infidelity rumors.

Brad Pitt might be one of Hollywood’s biggest stars. However, that has not kept him away from controversy. In fact, before the actor got together with Angelina Jolie, he was married to FRIENDS star, Jennifer Aniston. Unfortunately, their marriage fell apart after he started an onset relationship with his Mr. & Mrs. Smith co-star.
When Pitt’s divorce from Jolie made headlines, fans could not help but wonder if the past was being repeated. After all, the actor had been working with Marion Cotillard on their film, Allied. However, the rumors ended up getting so out of hand that the French actress took it upon herself to shut it down via her Instagram.
I am not used to commenting on things like this nor taking them seriously but as this situation is spiraling and affecting people I love, I have to speak up.
Firstly, many years ago, I met the man of my life, father of our son and of the baby we are expecting. He is my love, my best friend, the only one that I need. Secondly to those who have indicated that I am devastated, I am very well thank you.
Cotillard’s post confirmed that she and her husband were looking forward to a new chapter in their life. It proved that she had nothing to do with Pitt and Jolie’s divorce.
She even ended her statement wishing them nothing but the best. The actress wrote, “I do very much wish that Angelina and Brad, both whom I deeply respect, will find peace in this very tumultuous moment.“
Although Cotillard cleared herself from the drama, things were just beginning to heat up. After all, shortly after the news of Jolie filing for divorce broke, the reasons behind it made their way to light.
The straw that broke Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s marriage
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s love affair may have begun in 2005. However, it wasn’t until nearly a decade later in 2014 that they decided to get hitched. Although their story seemed like something out of a fairytale, their married life was far from it.
In fact, just 2 years later, Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt stating irreconcilable differences, and did not reveal any other details to the public. But a few years ago, that ended up changing. According to reports from The New York Times, it came to light that the couple had split due to alleged allegations of abuse from the 49-year-old.
The report stated that 2016 was when Jolie faced her final straw with Pitt. Although there had been various problems in their marriage, things reached a boiling point when the Fight Club star allegedly assaulted the actress and their children on a plane ride.
Neither Pitt nor Jolie have commented on what went down that day. However, their children seemed to take a step back from him. In fact, some of them have even dropped his name from theirs including their only biological child, Shiloh Jolie (via ABC News).
Pitt was investigated by the FBI on abuse claims, but Jolie never chose to press charges against him. Their divorce ended up coming through in 2019. However, they are still locked in a legal battle with no end in sight over their winery.
