Police investigating armed carjacking of Porsche in CT

Police are investigating an armed carjacking near Connecticut’s Interstate 95 on Sunday involving a masked man who is believed to have followed the victim from a gas station.

Officers at 9:55 a.m. responded to the area of Walls Drive and North Benson Road in Fairfield on the report of an armed carjacking and found a victim who said their Porsche 911 Carrera was stolen at a red light, according to Sgt. Michael Stahl of the Fairfield Police Department.

The victim reported that a gray BMW 5 Series with a misused Connecticut plate cut in front of them and blocked their vehicle at the light, Stahl said. A man then got out of the passenger side of the BMW, approached the driver side door of the Porsche and showed a handgun.

The man demanded the victim unlock the door and get out of the Porsche, according to Stahl. When the victim complied, the man got into the Porsche and sped off, getting onto Interstate 95 North at the Exit 22 on-ramp, according to Stahl. The driver of the BMW followed behind.

No injuries were reported.

Stahl said an initial investigation found that the victim was followed from a nearby gas station prior to the carjacking.

The suspect has been described as a man in his 20s, standing about 6 feet tall with a slim build, wearing dark clothing that included a hooded sweatshirt, mask, sunglasses and sweatpants.

Stahl said detectives have been actively investigating the carjacking and have been following multiple leads.

“Our priority is the safety and well-being of the Fairfield community,” Stahl said in a statement. “We encourage residents to stay alert and take simple precautions to help protect themselves. The Fairfield Police Department remains vigilant and is dedicated to thoroughly investigating incidents like these and keeping our community safe.”

Sen. Tony Hwang, R-Fairfield, said Monday, “Thank God no one was harmed. Thank you to the Fairfield Police Department for remaining vigilant and keeping our community safe.

“Time and again, I emphasize safety and holding lawbreakers accountable,” he said. “Yet, we have mayhem on our roads.”
