‘You already have made three of the four crimes punishable by death’

Known for his satirical characters and sharp humor, comedian-actor Sacha Baron Cohen recently appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Reviving his iconic characters like Ali G and Borat on the talk show, Cohen gave a performance filled with his signature humor.

However, in what seemed like a lighthearted attempt to poke fun at the political landscape and show support for the Democratic presidential nominee, Cohen made a few questionable and false claims about laws surrounding interfaith marriages in his character’s home country.

Sacha Baron Cohen’s Satirical Debate and False Claims on The Tonight Show

In his recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the talk show host suggested Sacha Baron Cohen to moderate a mock presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris as his iconic characters such as rapper Ali G and Kazakhstani journalist, Borat.

Both are some of his most popular characters from shows like Da Ali G Show and Borat! In a direct approach as Borat, he referenced Trump’s allegedly false claims about Haitian immigrants in Ohio, stating,

Mr. Trumps, you say in Ohio that people are eat the cats and the dogs. Which restaurant do they serve them at? Can you get me a reservation please?

The Dictator star also made a few remarks about the Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris as well, as he advised her not to visit Kazakhstan, saying,

You are a woman, a person of colors, and married to a Jew! I advise you not to come to Kazakhstan. You have already made three out of four crimes punishable by death.

The assertion that being “a woman, a person of color” is punishable by death in Kazakhstan does not reflect the legal or cultural realities of the country. Kazakhstan has laws that protect women’s rights and is home to a diverse, multiethnic population. Interfaith marriages are also not criminalized in Kazakhstan, rather Israel is known for prohibiting interfaith marriages.

Sacha Baron Cohen Subtly Expresses His Support For Kamala Harris

While in his Borat persona, Sacha Baron Cohen made some questionable claims about Kamala Harris, but he also appeared to subtly convey his support for the Democratic presidential nominee through his character Ali G.

Channeling his faux rapper character, Ali G sarcastically praised former President Trump while referencing his alleged crimes, stating,

Yo, Mr. Trump, you is being convicted of 32 crimes; you stole classified documents; you boned enough porn stars, and you ain’t never paid no taxes. Respect! You my hero.

When addressing Harris, Ali G asked, “You, what is you doing later, alright? When we look at you on the television me gets a massive election.” When prompted about questions for both candidates, he remarked as Ali G,

Can we just say to both of you that whatever happens, me is just glad that the next president won’t have white skin.

While he did not explicitly mention Harris, his statement that the “next president won’t have white skin” suggests a preference. The current Vice President, who has Afro-Jamaican and Indian American heritage, is one of the most prominent candidates in the race.
