44-year-old held on $2 million bond following west Jeffco chase, crash during drug probe

Two people have been charged following a police chase and crash in western Jefferson County.

The pursuit traveled through multiple jurisdiction and involved three different crashes. The county’s Star 1 helicopter was also involved.

The incident began Thursday when Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office drug deputies were investigating a Crime Stoppers tip about drugs being sold in the Bessemer area, said sheriff’s spokesman Henry Irby.

Detectives tried to stop a Chevrolet HHR in the 1700 block of Aaron Aronov Drive in Fairfield, but the driver refused to stop, and a pursuit ensued.

The chase traveled through Ensley and Brighton until the driver lost control of his vehicle and wrecked at 48th Street and Huntsville Avenue Brighton.

The driver was arrested. He was taken to UAB Hospital as a precaution and then booked into the Jefferson County Jail.

The passenger, Irby said, fled the scene.

During the chase, a marked law enforcement vehicle was involved in a crash Dr. Martin Luther King Drive and Woodward Road with a motorist was not involved in the pursuit. The driver of that vehicle struck was also taken to the hospital as a precaution.

A third crash happened, also in the area of 48th Street and Huntsville Avenue, when a sheriff’s office vehicle couldn’t stop in a graveled area and hit a cinderblock wall, causing damage to the wall and the unmarked vehicle. No one was injured.

The driver, 44-year-old Jarvis Anjuan Allen, is charged with trafficking fentanyl, trafficking ecstasy, intent to distribute a controlled substance, first-degree possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and felony fleeing and eluding.

Allen’s bonds total more than $2 million.

The passenger, 19-year-old Braylin Allen, turned himself in at the Jefferson County Jail. He is charged with attempting to elude and has been released on $6,000 bond.

Irby said investigator seized 40 grams of fentanyl, 28 grams of ecstasy, .67 grams of methamphetamine, 604 grams of marijuana and 9 grams of cocaine.

Also confiscated was an FN 5.7 semi-automatic pistol, four cell phones and two digital scales.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with additional information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 205-325-1450.
