A police officer was injured last week when a man in a stolen pickup truck allegedly dragged him from the vehicle during an escape attempt in Trumbull.
Brian Jacobs, 57, of Stamford faces charges of engaging police in pursuit, assault on a police officer, interfering with an officer, possession of controlled substance, use of drug paraphernalia and illegal operation under the influence, according to the Trumbull Police Department.
Police said Jacobs was stopped last Friday when a patrol officer spotted a Toyota Tacoma being driven south on Route 15. The pickup truck earlier in the morning was reported as being taken without permission to the Fairfield Police Department.
As an officer approached the truck, Jacobs allegedly took off and dragged the policeman a short distance before knocking him to the ground, according to police. The officer returned to his cruiser and chased Jacobs down.
Police said Jacobs was stopped and arrested a few miles away on Main Street near Quality Street. He was allegedly found with crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia, according to police.
The officer was later taken in an ambulance to St. Vincent’s Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.
Police said Jacobs was held on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Dec. 6. Fairfield police also charged him for offenses he allegedly committed in their jurisdiction, according to police.
