Man City duo return to training ahead of Feyenoord clash amid absence of key man

Manchester City welcome two first-team stars back to training ahead of a Champions League match with Feyenoord, however a key player was absent from Monday’s session.

Manchester City have received a double injury boost ahead of Tuesday night’s Champions League clash with Feyenoord at the Etihad.

The Citizens are coming into the match in the midst of their worst run of form under the tutelage of Pep Guardiola on the blue side of Manchester.

A four-goal thumping at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad on Saturday evening extended Man City’s losing run to five matches across all competitions.

As a result, the Citizens are currently occupying second spot in the Premier League standings, a mammoth eight points behind current pacesetters Liverpool.

Guardiola’s side have battled with an injury crisis in recent months, with influential midfielder Rodri facing the rest of the campaign on the sidelines.

Man City receive double training boost

Ahead of Tuesday night’s visit of Eredivisie giants Feyenoord to the Etihad, Manchester City have been boosted by the return of two first-team stars.

Both defender Ruben Dias and winger Jeremy Doku were pictured in full training alongside their teammates on Monday as preparations for the Citizens’ continental clash intensify.

Portugal international Dias has not featured for Man City due to a knock since the 2-1 EFL Cup defeat in North London to Tottenham on October 30, when the centre-back played just 45 minutes.

Doku is back on the grass after picking up a thigh injury earlier in the month, meaning that the attacker was unavailable for Belgium during November’s international break.

Featuring heavily in cup competitions for Guardiola’s troops so far this term, academy graduate Jahmai Simpson-Pusey was involved in training on Monday and could start back-to-back Champions League fixtures.

Man City suffer Stones blow?

It was a case of two steps forward and one step back for Man City in their fight for a clean bill of health, with John Stones absent from training on the eve of the Feyenoord game.

The 30-year-old started the heavy defeat to Spurs on the weekend but was subbed off during the half-time interval, replaced by Nathan Ake.

Stones has suffered with a number of minor injuries so far this season, limiting him to just 11 appearances across all competitions for the English champions.
