A MAJOR A-road used by thousands every day will stay closed this week and through January.
The A180 in north east Lincolnshire is undergoing maintenance and repair work on the concrete surface.
The stretch of road, northwest of Grimsby, is being closed overnight with cars then allowed to pass during the day.
Closures will now take place between January 2 and 14 after the repairs have been prolonged by weather, the BBC reports.
The first set of work is taking place on the westbound carriageway between the Brocklesby and Barnetby Top interchanges and has been ongoing since mid-October.
It was due to be completed by November 28 with work then set to start on the eastbound carriageway.
National Highways said extra repairs were needed to be carried out after recent bad weather hampered the repair efforts.
The agency said the overnight closures were needed while contractors work safely to “prolong the life of this section of the A180 by five years”.
National Highways said: “We plan to remove all traffic management over the Christmas embargo period, from 06:00 on 20 December.
“We will then reinstate all traffic management on 2 January, with a lane one closure on the eastbound carriageway.”
