Born Mariah Amani Buckles, Mariah the scientist is a singer-songwriter from Atlanta. Her unusual stage name originates from her previous chosen career field, her dream to become a pediatric anesthesiologist. She was previously enrolled at St. John’s University in Queens, New York, where she was studying biology and had a scholarship for her undergrad studies.
Despite the lucrative and ‘prestigious’ career field, she chose to abandon being a physician and left during the spring semester of her sophomore year. Leaving all her stuff behind in her dorm room, despite her very strict parents, it took her less than a year to land a record deal. And in spite of her music career, she remains well-informed about the world around her.
Honest to the core, it is her father’s life mantra that has inspired her to remain true to herself. Always having had a creative side, Mariah is enjoying blending her science background into her music.
Yet, going back to school isn’t out of the cards for her. In an appearance on Big Boy TV, back in October 2023, the singer revealed that she wants to go back someday and have a double major in biology and engineering. Apart from her love for music and science, the singer is also an ardent animal and nature lover.
On Big Boy TV, she also revealed that her first song was a combination of a diss track and a lovey-dovey song, that she had made for a boy at her University. Although the guy never listened to the song, her friends later convinced her to upload it on SoundCloud. Uploading it was the best thing she did for it not only caught the attention of the public but it eventually led to her signing a record deal with RCA Records.
In October 2023, she signed up with Epic Records (via Music Connection) and has released four albums, and one EP, collaborated with several artists, and performed at numerous music festivals across the world.
How Did Young Thug and Mariah the Scientist Meet?
Mariah the Scientist and Young Thug first met each other for a song collaboration. As per what the singer told Baller Alert, she was the one who messaged him first, wishing him a Happy Birthday. However, the Grammy-winning rapper missed the message at first and replied days after asking if she had signed.
Eventually, she wanted him to collaborate with her on a song, that led to their meeting. When they first met, she was taken aback by Young Thug but did not want to start a relationship with him since he had just gotten out of a long-term one. They waited six months before everything fell into place and their relationship began (via Big Boy TV).
Being awestruck by how tall he was and his stoic presence, the singer revealed they had their first date at a restaurant called Arnettes in Sandy Springs. Despite earlier thinking, that she would never be in a relationship with a man who already had a kid, let alone 6 kids, her perspective changed when she met Young Thug.
Ever since they started dating, the couple has collaborated on several superhit songs like Walker, Ride, and more. Even her album, To Be Eaten Alive includes her song called From a Woman and a response and complimentary track from Young Thug called From a Man. Mariah the Scientist is Happy Young Thug is Free
Behind bars since May 2022, Young Thug was released after 900 days in custody. The rapper was charged with 63 counts of illegal substance abuse trafficking, and firearm possession and for also violating the Georgia RICO Act. Held without bail all this time, his trial began in November and has now finally concluded (via CNN).
Having entered a non-negotiated guilty plea deal, the rapper is free to walk out of jail but will have to serve 15 years on probation. Furthermore, he is to keep away from the metropolitan Atlanta area for the first 10 years of his probation and can return only in certain situations like weddings, funerals, etc. He is also required to host an anti-gang and anti-gun presentation four times a year in the area throughout his probation. Not allowed to knowingly keep in touch with any criminal street gang, he must also perform 100 hours of community service each year during his probation period (via CNN).
While the rapper is hardly ‘free’, he is certainly out of jail and his girlfriend Mariah the Scientist is grateful for it. In a statement via Atlanta’s WSB-TV reporter Michael Seiden, she remarked,

Furthermore, she was performing on Latto’s Sugar Honey Iced Tea tour in Brooklyn when Thug was released. While on stage, she again took the chance to express her joy over her boyfriend’s release and hit back at the haters (via Rolling Stone),
