Asta VA Said Even Yuki Tabata’s Black Clover Anime Can’t Compete With the Movies in 1 Major Area

Yuki Tabata’s Black Clover has been built on the reputation of negativity and backlash, where it was even called the cheap copy of Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto. However, the series has transcended criticism, becoming the best Shonen series of the next generation. Part of the series’ popularity was when Tabata-Sensei jumped ships from Shonen Jump to Jump GIGA, which changed everything for the better.

With immense popularity and a global fan following, the series received an anime adaptation. The series’ fame skyrocketed to another level, thus becoming the most popular anime of 2020, and it only went upwards after that. The quality content, which consisted of a gripping storyline, a long list of three-dimensional characters, and alluring animation, added to its charm.

However, when the anime made a film in 2023, titled Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King, it featured one trait that the anime adaptation could not come close to! This quality was so grand that even Asta’s voice actor praised the project for it.

Yuki Tabata’s Magnum Opus Fell Short to Its Film in One Aspect

Ever since Kohei Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia fell off the popularity list of the new-gen Shonen series, Yuki Tabata’s magnum opus capitalized on the moment, becoming the next most popular next-gen series that featured all the necessary elements to become one of the most recognizable Shonen shows of the anime industry.

The series was based on the manga, which ran from 2017 to 2021, featuring a whopping 170 episodes, until it went on a long hiatus. However, the fans were delighted when, in 2023, Asta and his friends returned to the big screen with Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King.

The project was a massive glow-up for the series that not only took its battles to another level but also the overall quality of the series eclipsed the anime series. Both projects featured an overwhelming difference in quality, but the script of the original work was something else that made the voice actor talk highly of the flick.

During an exclusive interview via Reddit, Gakuto Kajiwara and Nobunaga Shimazaki were the voice actors for Asta and Yuno, respectively. The duo was asked to give their impression when they first “read the script.”

Both were blown away by the script, where Kajiwara-San felt the story was something that retained the series’ original style with an “appropriate story.” He said,

I was looking forward to acting in the film because while it retains the “Black Clover” style of the original work and the TV anime series, the battle scenes are more epic and the themes dealt with are larger than ever in a theatre production.

He further added,

I felt that the story of Asta having to fight against the “magic emperor” that he has been striving for, the conflict of having to defeat what he has been striving for, and the clash of justice between the two sides, made it an appropriate story to depict in a movie.

Shimazaki-San, the voice actor for Yuno, also shared a similar opinion of the script, saying he was amazed by the script. Additionally, as actors, he hoped to create “such a synergy and enhance each other’s performance.”

Nevertheless, both actors shined heavily in the film, as they gave a performance worth remembering.

Asta and Yuno’s Voice Actor’s Were Thrilled When The Project Was Announced

Earlier in the same interview via Reddit, the interviewer asked if the film’s announcement had gathered a massive popular response from the fandom; they were interested in knowing how the “two feel about” the project.

Kajiwara-San replied, that he was delighted to see the project being made into a film, which made him look forward to the flick. He said,

This is the first time that a work I have appeared in has been made into a movie, and I was really happy when I heard that it was going to be made into a movie. Actually, one of my goals was to see my work on the big screen in a movie theater with good sound. That came true with my first starring role in a Black Clover film… I was very excited!

Shimazaki-San also had similar emotions because he was sad when the anime series “came to an end.” He said,

I am honestly happy as well, I was feeling very sad when the TV anime series, which had been running for three and a half years, came to an end. I am very happy to be able to be involved in Black Clover again as a voice actor.

He continued that becoming a part of the Black Clover film made him a tad bit worried, but he was glad to play an active role in the film.

However, the initial report only said that “a movie will be made,” so I was a little worried that Yuno might not be in the movie (laughs). I was a little bit worried (laughs). I am glad that he was able to play an active role!

Nevertheless, fans are eagerly waiting for the anime series to return as they wait for Asta and the Clover kingdom to defeat the Devil that wants to take over the four kingdoms in Black Clover verse.

Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King can be streamed on Netflix.
