Big Lots locations have been closing throughout the country, and Connecticut has been no exception. The latest state spot shuttering in the state is in Bristol.
The store at 1235 Farmington Ave. is one of 56 stores in 23 states in this latest wave of closings listed as a part of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy filings for the District of Delaware on Oct. 11.
A final day of business is unknown at this time. There were also several announced Big Lot closings in August, including stores in Manchester, Milford, Waterford, Newington, New Milford, Norwich, Torrington, Waterbury and Windsor.
A Sept. 9 news release from Big Lots, an Ohio-based discount retailer, revealed that the company entered into a sale agreement with Nexus, which agreed to acquire all of Big Lot’s assets and business operations.
“(Big Lots) initiated voluntary Chapter 11 proceedings in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware,” the release stated.
“We are proud of the work we do every day across Big Lots to provide our customers with unmistakable value and exceptional savings, as well as building stronger communities through our philanthropic efforts,” said Bruce Thorn, president and chief executive of Big Lots, in a news release last month. “The actions we are taking today will enable us to move forward with new owners who believe in our business and provide financial stability, while we optimize our operational footprint, accelerate improvement in our performance, and deliver on our promise to be the leader in extreme value,”
Multiple requests for comment from Big Lots were not returned.
