How to Beat Mimic Tear

This is a quick guide on how to beat Mimic Tear. The game developers of FromSoftware thought they could get away after adding another optional boss that stands out and is different from the rest of the pack. The name mimic implies this boss can copy or imitate anything a player brought with it.

The Mimic Tear is an optional boss fight meaning players do not have to face it to advance through the main story; however, some qualities and features about this fascinating boss may entice players to test their might against a perfect copy or reflection of themselves.

Where to Find Mimic Tear?

How to Beat Mimic Tear
The Mimic Tear can be a fun boss fight rather than a harrowing one.

The Mimic Tear can be found at Nokron, Eternal City. Elden Ring is a large and expansive world set in the Lands Between filled with countless regions with smaller dungeons and crevices for the Tarnished to explore and clear any inhabitants standing in its way. Players can access this area by heading to Eastern Limgrave and entering Starfall Crater.

It is worth noting that players will have to defeat Starscourge Radahn before advancing. The optional boss will then be easy to find after players enter the area and do what they usually do once they are in a new location: see the sights and explore every square inch.

How to Prepare to Fight Mimic Tear?

Eternal City in Elden Ring
The Mimic Tear will mimic everything a player has.

While most Elden Ring bosses require players to grind for the best gear and loot before facing them, the Mimic Tear does not deserve the same level of preparation. Instead of equipping all the best weapons, especially with higher levels, the best thing to do is to strip the Tarnished clean so that this enemy will have nothing to copy but floor or introduction loot.

Tip

Before entering the arena, players can remove all their gear to give the Mimic Tear almost nothing to use.

The Mimic Tear will copy a player’s look, loadout, and equipment equivalent to fighting an evil clone. Players can then quickly equip their items before giving the boss time to shapeshift into the form of what is in front and then fight it head-on.

Suggested Loadout

  • Katana with the Seppuku Ash of War
  • Death Lightning incantation
  • Death Flare
  • Fia’s Mist

Key art of Elden Ring
This optional boss in Elden Ring offers players a rare opportunity to learn from themselves.

Rather than fighting this boss with everything in your loadout, it is beneficial to think outside the box and give this boss the same advantages or disadvantages as a player has. Removing all gear will even the odds and put both sides on a much more even playing field.

Worth the Trouble?Yes

Before starting the fight, players can go in butt-naked and put the odds in their favor. The Mimic Tear can harm players with weak punches and they can use a spirit summon to distract it and quickly equip their weapons and strike before it gets the chance to copy,

Players can deceive this boss into using a weapon that inflicts self-harm like the Katana paired with the Seppuku Ash of War. Players can dodge and roll all incoming attacks and these are common tricks and essential skills for playing a Soulslike game like Elden Ring and watch as the health bar declines.

The Mimic Tear is weak to the Deathblight status and players can equip the Death Lightning incantation to reap the benefits of this advantage. Elden Ring players can just toy with the boss long enough until the status effect takes over and kills the enemy.

The Mimic Tear will drop a Silver Tear Mask which can increase the attributes of the Tarnished and Larval Tear that can come in handy later on in the deeper parts of the game where players will reconsider reallocating points. These worthwhile rewards are worth the hassle for the fun experience of fighting an evil doppelganger.
