The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom: How to Defeat Ganon

Hyrule seems to never be safe from Ganon, as Link’s and Zelda’s arch nemesis has returned once again. This time, the princess is facing off against him as part of the Still Missing main story quest in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.

He’ll appear in his blue boar-like form, although it’s just an echo created by the relentless demon. With a flurry of fast-paced attacks, he’s a hard beast to roast. If you’re not sure how to defeat Ganon, use these neat tricks to make it through the fight in a breeze.

Where Can You Find Ganon in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom?

You’ll encounter Ganon in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom not once but twice.

In The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, Ganon is the main boss in the Hyrule Castle Dungeon. This is actually the second time you’re facing off against the boar-like demon, with the first encounter taking place in the early stages of the game when playing as Link.

As you follow the Still Missing main story quest, you’ll eventually enter the Still World at the Hyrule Castle in an attempt to save Zelda’s father. Make your way through the different rooms and puzzles of the dungeon to find Ganon.

How to Prepare to Fight Ganon

Always keep an eye on your HP and Energy gauge and pick up healables whenever you get the chance.

The best way to prepare for battle is to quickly warp to a smoothie shop and stock up on smoothies that will boost your damage resistance and replenish your HP and Energy.

Tip

Combine a Golden Egg with Tough Mango to replenish your HP and reduce damage for 5 minutes. Rock Salt and Tough Mango will refill your Energy Level and reduce damage for 1 minute.

Ganon keeps teleporting around the room, giving you little chance to deal a lot of damage. Patience, perseverance, and quick movements are needed to beat him.

You can use strong echoes, such as the Darknut, to distract the boss. However, he makes quick work of them, rarely giving them a chance even to land a hit.

Your Swordfighter Form will be more important, so make sure to always collect the blue Energy Spheres that drop when he launches his projectiles to refill your Energy gauge.

How to Beat Ganon

Whenever you get a chance in-between attacks, turn into Swordfighter Form and start slashing away.

The Ganon boss battle in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is split into three phases with four different types of attacks. Use these strategies if you’re wondering how to kill Ganon as easily as possible.

The spear thrust: In this attack, Ganon thrusts his spear forward. When he pulls his arm back, make sure to get out of the way he is facing to avoid it. He’ll stay in this position for a few seconds, allowing you to get a couple of hits in with your sword before he teleports to another location in the arena.

Once you’ve dealt enough damage, phase two will start a flurry of new, fast-paced attacks.

The spinning attack: Ganon will now throw his spinning spear, which will follow you for a short while, dealing massive damage. Use R to wind out of the way.

Steer clear of the spinning spear and use the Bind Ability to hit back.

This is your chance to strike back. While the spear is spinning through the air, use the Bind Ability (target with ZL, press X to bind) to hold the spear in place. Then walk toward Ganon and hit him with his spear to give him a taste of his own medicine. This will stun him, giving you a chance to slash away in Swordfighter Form.

Alternatively, whenever the spear is spinning through the room, get out of the way, turn into Swordfighter Mode, and start shooting arrows at Ganon to deal damage.

Run in a large circle around Ganon to avoid the fire bats.

Fire bats: In another attack, he spins his spear in front of him and spawns fiery bats by his side, shooting them toward you in quick succession. Run a large circle around him to avoid these. It’s difficult to get to him during this attack without getting damaged, so it’s better to just keep your distance.

Tip

You can spawn a few minions between you and the bats as shields to take the hits for you.

Fire orb: During the third stage of the battle, Ganon will start spawning a single fire orb that tracks you for a moment. Getting hit will knock Zelda back and take several hearts, so make sure to move away in a big circle.

You don’t get much time, but while the orb is flying, you can run toward Ganon and hit him a couple of times.

Steer clear of the fireball, then run toward Ganon and start slashing away in Swordfighter Form.

It is possible to deflect the orb with your sword. However, this takes precise timing, as the orb will start bouncing back and forth between you and Ganon. It has to hit him three to five times to stun him, so this is not the easiest strategy.

The Ganon boss battle can create attrition as you slowly chip away at his health. Persevere and keep using every moment you get to hit him, and you will defeat him in time.

After beating him, you’ll have completed the Hyrule Castle Dungeon and will be rewarded with a Heart Container, five Might Crystals, and Tri will level up.
