Akira Toriyama’s last project, Dragon Ball DAIMA, has recently released its first episode on Crunchyroll, and fans could have asked for nothing more. The series is a nostalgic reminder of all the old concepts of the franchise that were used in the first Dragon Ball series. From the Demon Realm to small Goku, the series brings out some of the greatest Dragon Ball elements.
One of the old concepts that is being used in Dragon Ball DAIMA has also made a connection with the currently popular action-adventure role-playing game by Game Science, Black Myth: Wukong. As fans already know, both Black Myth: Wukong and the central storyline of Dragon Ball were inspired by the same classical Chinese novel Journey to the West.
However, no one anticipated that the latest Dragon Ball DAIMA series would also have a parallel with Black Myth: Wukong. This parallel is the iconic power pole of Goku, which is also known as Ruyi Jingu Bang in the video game.
The Return of the Power Pole in Dragon Ball DAIMA
When Dragon Ball DAIMA was announced last year, it instantly became a fan favorite because it brought young Goku back into action. The entire series is based on the narrative of Goku and the rest of the Dragon Ball characters being transformed into a smaller version of themselves, and they need to become normal once again.
However, young Goku was not the only thing that made Dragon Ball DAIMA a fan favorite. The series also brought back the power pole, which was one of the most important aspects of Goku’s identity and was an iconic weapon from the first Dragon Ball series. It originally belonged to Master Korrin, the martial artist cat, and was later passed down to Goku.
Bringing the power pole back in Dragon Ball DAIMA was a brilliant move by Akira Toriyama, as it perfectly aligned with the young Goku concept. Also, the power pole reintroduced martial arts to the series, which was lost since Dragon Ball Z. Thus, it is only going to make the Dragon Ball DAIMA series even better.
Dragon Ball DAIMA’s Parallel With Black Myth: Wukong
Although the power pole weapon is not a new concept to Dragon Ball, it does connect Dragon Ball DAIMA with Black Myth: Wukong. In the game and the original novel, the power pole is actually called Ruyi Jingu Bang. It is the magical black iron staff of Sun Wukong and the original inspiration behind the power pole and its magical abilities.
The Ruyi Jingu Bang is one of the most important sources of Sun Wukong’s fighting abilities. It can extend to a long range and change its size according to Wukong’s will. It is indestructible and can hold itself against some of the strongest weapons and enemies in the game.
The power pole is a lot like Ruyi Jingu Bang in terms of magical abilities. It is wielded by Goku and has made an iconic comeback in Dragon Ball DAIMA. It is truly a nostalgic moment for Dragon Ball fans, and it is only going to enhance Goku’s upcoming journey in the Demon Realm along with his friends.
