Firefighters rescue child trapped on second floor of burning CT home

Firefighters rescued a young child who was trapped on the second floor of a Norwich residence that was on fire on Monday evening.

The Norwich Dispatch Center received numerous 911 calls around 5:25 p.m. on Monday reporting a large residential structure fire at 83 Summit St., according to the Norwich Police Department.

Norwich officers and the Norwich Fire Department responded to the scene and found the two-story residence fully engulfed in flames, police said.

Numerous callers reported that there was a child trapped inside. The Norwich Fire Department was able to make entry and rescue a 7-year-old girl from the second floor of the home, according to police.

The girl was transported to Backus Hospital where she was listed in critical condition, police said.

The fire is under investigation. No further information was released at this time.
