High school football Week 6: Maloney-Windsor, East Catholic-Bloomfield on tap

It’s Week 6 of high school football in Connecticut, a bye week for some but most teams had their bye week last week and are back in action this week.

One of the biggest local games is undefeated Windsor, ranked second in the Courant state coaches poll, facing off against Maloney at Falcon Field in Meriden. Maloney is 2-2 but has played a tough early season schedule. In another CCC game, Bloomfield will be looking to go over .500 against undefeated East Catholic Friday night.

Here are some of the top local games to watch this weekend:

Windsor (4-0) at Maloney (2-2), Friday, 6:30 p.m., Falcon Field, Meriden: Both teams have played difficult schedules in the early season, but Maloney has taken its lumps against Class L champion New Canaan and Class LL champion Staples, losing to the former in the opening game 42-13 and the latter 28-21 on Sept. 27 in Westport. But Maloney had a quality win over Glastonbury and had the week off last week after a win over East Harford to prepare for Windsor. Windsor had a big win over Class L runner-up Darien in Week 3 and also had a bye week last week.

East Catholic (4-0) at Bloomfield (2-2), Friday, 6:30 p.m.: East Catholic is looking to keep its win streak going but Bloomfield, last year’s Class S champion which is off to a 2-2 start, might have something to say about that. East Catholic last played against Tolland, rallying for a 27-20 win and its defense made a big play at the end of the game to seal the victory. Bloomfield has lost a close game to Middletown in Week 2 and got shut out by St. Joseph in Week 3 before rebounding with a 48-0 win over Avon.

Bristol Eastern (3-1) at Newington (4-0), Thursday, 6:30 p.m.: Bristol Eastern dropped a one-point loss to East Catholic in Week 2 but has won its last two games, against Pomperaug and Farmington. Both games were close. Newington has shut out three of its four opponents, with its closest game a 12-10 win over Danbury in Week 3.

Wethersfield (3-1) at RHAM (2-2), Saturday, 10 a.m.: The Eagles started off 3-0 but are looking to bounce back from a 42-40 loss to Bristol Central before they had a bye week last week. Wethersfield had only given up six points before the Week 3 loss. RHAM broke a two-game losing streak with a win over E.O. Smith Oct. 4 but is also coming off a bye week.
