Hartford Wolf Pack open home schedule with back-to-back weekend games

The 50th season of professional hockey in Hartford will kick off on Friday, as the Hartford Wolf Pack take the ice for their home opener against the Springfield Thunderbirds. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. at the XL Center.

It’s the first of three games in three nights for the Wolf Pack, who will host the Bridgeport Islanders on Saturday at 6 p.m. at the XL Center, then travel to Bridgeport on Sunday for a 3 p.m. game at Webster Bank Arena.

Hartford lost its season opener at Lehigh Valley, 3-2, last Saturday, in head coach Grant Potulny‘s first game.

The Wolf Pack have reached the Atlantic Division semifinals each of the last two seasons.

Professional hockey in Hartford dates back to the 1974-75 season, when the then-New England Whalers took the ice at the brand-new Hartford Civic Center for the first time.

The Wolf Pack will celebrate 50 years of pro hockey in Hartford with various promotions throughout the season.
