Judge Peinado summons a former counselor of Esperanza Aguirre as a witness in the case against Begoña Gómez | Spain

Judge Juan Carlos Peinado wants to question more witnesses in the open case against Begoña Gómezwife of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, who is accused of influence peddling and corruption in business. The magistrate has summoned Juan José Güemes, president of the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation of the Instituto de Empresa (IE) and former advisor of the Community of Madrid during Esperanza Aguirre’s time, to testify.

According to a resolution by the magistrate, to which EL PAÍS had access, Judge Peinado promoted this initiative last Wednesday, the same day that he took a witness statement from Sonsoles Blanca Gil de Antuñano, director of Human Resources at the IE, where Begoña Gómez directed the IE Africa Center. According to legal sources, Gil said that Güemes said that the president’s wife had to be hired for that position.

Judge Peinado has summoned the former Madrid councilor on November 18, starting at 12:00 – that same day he plans to question another worker at the Business Institute. In addition to being part of the Aguirre Executive between 2003 and 2010, Güemes was a regional deputy for the PP and general secretary of Tourism with the Government of José María Aznar.

Among other lines of investigation, the magistrate has targeted the relationship between the IE and Sánchez’s wife. Begoña Gómez directed the IE Africa Center from 2018 to 2022. The judge He already questioned Diego del Alcázar last Julypresident of the Instituto de Empresa, who assured that Gómez was hired because he had an adequate resume.
