Week 8 State Volleyball Player of the Week takes landslide vote

The Week 8 State Volleyball Player of the Year drew the most votes ever in the AL.com poll. In fact, the total number of votes cast was more than the previous seven weeks of balloting – combined.

Faith Academy’s Parker Goff’s 132,500 votes – out of 139,722 total – were also more than all the votes cast in the first seven weeks of the survey. The previous one-week high was 47,908 in Week 4 when Southeastern’s Isleigh Hicks finished on top with 16,066.

Goff’s vote total was 95 percent of the vote – also the largest margin in the voting this season.

Goff, a senior outside hitter headed to play volleyball at Union University in Jackson, Tenn., surpassed 1,500 career kills with 91 last week. She also had 42 digs, 13 aces and 8 blocks for the Rams. Goff set the school record for kills in September, when she went over 1,250.

Ella Lomax of Daphne finished second in the poll with 2 percent of the vote. Lomax got her 1,000th career dig in the Baldwin County championship match as she finished with 52. The junior outside hitter also had 61 kills, 9 blocks and 7 aces for the Class 7A No. 8 Trojans.

Hoover’s Olivia Guenster was third in the voting with 1 percent of the total. The senior libero/defensive specialist had 93 digs, 41 kills, 18 aces and 2 blocks for the third-ranked Bucs.

Watch for the State Volleyball Player of the Week poll on Tuesdays this season and make your choice known. Nominations come from weekly statistics submitted to AL.com by coaches or statisticians.
