Radio and television in Castilla y León go on strike again on the opening day of the Seminci festival | Spain

The template of the regional radio and television of Castilla y Leónassigned to private companies, but with 21.3 million public euros as an annual subsidy, participates in a majority in a strike called this Friday to improve their working conditions. It is about the second stoppage since workers decided to intensify their protests against their salary, professional and schedule situation, among other demands. The strike coincides with the opening day of the Seminci film festival in Valladolida key event for the city and usually widely covered by community television. The general secretary of the Comisiones Obreras union, Unai Sordo, has announced his presence at the rally next to the theater where the film contest opens.

The protest events have consisted of calls in front of the provincial headquarters of the regional radio and television stations, where dozens of employees have gathered to show their indignation. The great focus of the protest consists of their presence in the afternoon at the Calderón theater in Valladolid, where they intend to make their demands visible to the citizens and to the members of the field of culture, cinema and politics gathered by the Seminci. The previous day of strike, on October 3, coincided with the inauguration of the new season of regional television and produced majority follow-up figures, especially in Valladolidwhere the majority of the staff works. On the first day of the break, the news programs were very limited, with some blocks with hardly any content and hardly any professionals presenting them.

Those affected complain, as stated by Marcos Sacristán, a member of the works council, that “in nine months of negotiation the company has not gone beyond the 1.5% salary increase” and still has not reached the minimum requirements for professionals, with average salaries of between 1,200 and 1,400 euros regardless of their training, experience or extras. They also denounce the schedules, which prevent work life from being compatible with personal life as they are split shifts with obsolete resources and hardly any updates. Sacristán explains that from the first date of the strike until now there has been no new proposal from the company.

Jorge Losada, general director of television in Castilla y Leónpoints out that “there has not been any call to the company from the unions to the company” and “nor from the company to the unions.” Losada recalls that in the run-up to the first day of the strike, the workers’ representatives and the company’s delegates agreed on conditions that were rejected when voted on by the staff: they mostly declined a payment of 500 extra euros in the first year and 850 in the second. second. The sum is equivalent to 35.71 and 60.71 euros more per month, an amount considered scarce by potential beneficiaries.

Those aggrieved criticize that this regional service is not public as such, since it is carried out by two media conglomerates related to construction businessmen linked to the PP. The corporation receives 21.3 million euros annually for its operation. The charges of the Junta of Castilla y León They have argued that this is a conflict where the regional Executive has no responsibilities, since for them it is a struggle between a company like any other and its staff, without the involvement of the Board. The general secretary of the Workers’ Commissions, Unai Sordo, with family roots in Valladolid, has announced that he will attend the staff demonstration in front of the Calderón theater this Friday afternoon.
