Kamala Harris also celebrates the death of Sinwar: “The threat that Hamas represents to Israel must be eliminated”
In statements to the press at the end of a closed-door event at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the vice president of the United States and Democratic candidate for the White House, Kamala Harris, spoke about the death of the Hamas leader in Gaza in terms similar to those used by President Joe Biden. “Justice has been done, and the United States, Israel and the entire world are better off for it,” stressed Harris, who was forced to hold her meeting with students behind closed doors due to a pro-Palestinian demonstration on campus.
Like Biden, Harris has recalled Sinwar’s responsibility in “the death of thousands of innocent people, including the victims of October 7 and the hostages murdered in Gaza. “He had American blood on his hands.” With a phrase also identical to another from Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, the Democratic candidate recalled the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023 as “the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust, a terrorist attack that killed 1,200 innocent people and included horrific acts of sexual violence and more than 250 hostages held in Gaza, including 7 Americans, living and deceased, who remain in captivity”, in addition, he stressed, to unleashing “a devastating war in Gaza that has caused the unconscionable suffering of many innocent Palestinians and greater instability throughout the Middle East.”
According to authorities in the Hamas-ruled Strip, more than 41,000 Gazans have died in one year of war. “Israel has the right to defend itself, and the threat that Hamas poses to Israel must be eliminated. Today there has been clear progress towards that goal: Hamas is decimated and its leaders have been eliminated,” said Harris, who upon her arrival on campus was greeted by pro-Palestinian protesters with cries of complicity in the Israeli genocide in Gaza. Similar scenes have occurred in recent days—and in fact, throughout almost the entire campaign—by protesters who reproach the White House for its military support for Israel.
