Loki’s Devil Fruit Reveal Can Save Oda from Using the Worst Shonen Trope for Luffy

Spoiler Alert !!!

Chapter 1130 of One Piece

One of the most long-awaited characters in One Piece is Loki, the Prince of Elbaf, who is finally here in chapter 1130. With the Straw Hats entering Elbaf, the crew detected the Prince from far away and with Luffy being Luffy, he decided to confront him. However, the famed giant appeared to be chained up and with a menacing look on his face. Even more terrifying, Luffy himself got goosebumps sensing his presence and this is a rare moment in One Piece.

One Piece has insane power-scaling but Loki might surpass everyone Luffy has ever faced so far and potentially even the destroyer of the world. In a weird twist of events, Loki proclaims he is the Sun God and it might relate to the Devil Fruit he has in his possession. There are many theories surrounding the nature of how he got the Devil Fruit and whether he ate another Hito Hito no Mi which granted the same powers as Luffy. Does it mean Luffy isn’t the new Sun God and what would it mean for One Piece?

Luffy Not Being the Sun God Would Defy Shonen Tropes for Good

While Luffy’s Gear 5 is undeniably exhilarating and his peak, it would also make him yet another “destined for greatness” character in a shonen anime, rather than becoming a hero of his own through his hard work. Defying this would make Luffy a genuine hero and someone who earned the title for good. Eiichiro Oda would surpass expectations and make the protagonist more realistic and rooted in reality or at least as real as it could get in One Piece.

Loki was revealed to be the Disgraced Prince and the Prince of Curses in chapter 1130. While his past remains mysterious and nothing other than his proposal to Charlotte Lola is known, the Prince has clearly done something grave. It is believed the giant killed his father, King Harald, and did it to get his Devil Fruit. Thus, many theorize it could be the original Hito Hito no Mi that Luffy has.

Moreover, Loki also claimed he could destroy the world, something a Sun God could definitely have more potential to do. This proclamation could hint at Ragnarok, which Loki is confirmed to have ties to so maybe he can bring on the destruction of the world. However, according to Norse mythology, that would also hint at him perishing in battle. Perhaps Luffy will be the catalyst of the events.

Loki Still Remains a Mystery

His reveal was not what we expected and yet surpassed all of them after his silhouette gave nothing away and looked quite silly. The self-proclaimed Sun God is going to be a tough fight as he was too much for even the giants to handle. This might be the real Sun God vs Sun God fight we were promised as Luffy is not going to let this man slide.

Fans are already hyped for this and can’t wait to get to know more about the Prince. We also await for the Straw Hats to reunite with the rest of their crew and allies. Luffy might need to be in full formation for this fight. One Piece continues to defy expectations. If Oda confirms Loki as the real Sun God, it is a bold choice but perhaps the right one.

One Piece is available on VIZ Media and Crunchyroll.
