(NBC) — This weekend, “Saturday Night Live” continues its run of new episodes to open Season 50.
Michael Keaton is back to host the fourth episode, it is also his fourth time hosting, the first time being more than four decades ago.
“SNL” was not the machine it has become when Michael Keaton first hosted the show back in 1982.
“It operates so smoothly now,” said Keaton. “It’s kind of insane they do this every week, well almost every week.”
Keaton has hosted multiple eras of the show, including the ‘90s with Chris Farley.
“To be around Farley was so hard,” said Keaton. “It was so hard not to laugh. And, you know, that thing of breaking up in a sketch is kind of like, you really don’t want to do that. But it was really hard not to.”
Keaton gets to go for laughs and tears in his new movie “Goodrich,” playing a man getting a second chance to be a good parent.
“It’s really emotional movie, but it’s also funny,” said Keaton.
Which was also the bottom line for his return in “Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice.”
“You don’t want to take a movie that was already so good and then screw it up,” said Keaton. “So I was definitely feeling the pressure.”
Now, Keaton’s got the pressure of hosting a fourth time.
“Nerve-racking, yeah,” said Keaton. “But that’s kind of a good thing, you know. That correct amount of butterflies, you know, you’re kind of a little bit scared. That’s always good.”
After this weekend, the next new episode of “SNL” is in two weeks, with John Mulaney hosting and Chappell Roan as the musical guest.
