Wrong-way driver killed in head-on collision on Route 8 in Waterbury

A 30-year-old man died as a result of a wrong-way crash early Sunday morning on Route 8 in Waterbury.

Troopers from Troop A responded to a head-on collision on Route 8 North near Exit 30A around 3:11 a.m., according to the Connecticut State Police.

State police said a preliminary investigation revealed that 30-year-old Aron Vann of Waterbury was driving a Nissan Altima southbound in the northbound left lane on Route 8 when his Nissan collided head-on with a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by a 36-year-old man from Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Vann sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to state police. The Jeep driver was transported to Saint Mary’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, state police said.

The State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Squad responded to the scene to conduct the ongoing investigation.
