An audit indicates that Toni Comín diverted 15,500 euros from an independence entity for personal expenses | News from Catalonia

Toni Comín follows waiting to take up his MEP seat and, meanwhile, he has had to face a new accusation for his alleged negligent management of the funds of the Consell de la República, the pro-independence entity founded by Carles Puigdemont to exercise a kind of parallel Generalitat from Belgium. An audit of the entity reveals that Comín used 15,530 euros of Consell funds to pay personal expenses, such as hiring a rental car, paying parking fees or renting an apartment. In a statement, Comín denies that these are personal whims but rather that they correspond to representation expenses on trips to the south of France due to his status as vice president of the governing body of the Council of the Republic. “They are expenses of the same nature (identical) as the representation expenses of the other members of the government: travel and accommodation costs,” says Comín, who reiterates that “the responsibility” implied by his position in the Consell de la República “is not It is paid.”

The audit, carried out this Monday by the digital El Món, points out that the former Health Minister of the Generalitat, who went with Puigdemont to Belgium in 2017 to avoid being arrested, withdrew amounts of cash of up to 6,000 euros and used funds from the Consell de la República’s coffers to pay traffic fines. . The audit alludes to “unjustified expenses” and points out “possible irregularities.”

The Consell de la República has reported that the information affecting its leader is “provisional” and that it has come to light after having suffered “a computer attack, a breach of the official Instagram account and some private device, probably that of vice president of the entity, Toni Comín”. The entity affirms that it will take the matter to “the police and justice” because “they are serious criminal activities.” Furthermore, he says that the protagonists of this action are “pirates, probably in the pay of the State sewers” and that the information has been made public “criminally with the intention of harming” the entity and its members.
