Uptick in car break-ins in Suffield may be linked to similar crimes in CT, Massachusetts

Uptick in car break-ins in Suffield may be linked to similar crimes in CT, Massachusetts

Police are investigating a number of car break-ins over the past week in Suffield believed to possibly be tied to an uptick in surrounding towns and Massachusetts.

The break-ins have involved thieves shattering windows to vehicles where valuables could be seen inside, according to the Suffield Police Department.

Police said they have video of the suspects caught on home surveillance cameras, though the footage has not helped identify the thieves.

According to police, the thieves have fled any residences where motion-activated lights have illuminated the area. They have also left vehicles alone if nothing valuable can be seen inside.

Suffield police said they are working with multiple law enforcement agencies in neighboring towns as well as those in Massachusetts where similar upticks have been reported. Authorities are working together to “determine if any of us have a viable lead we can all work” with.

“As a reminder, please remove all valuables from inside your vehicle at the end of the day, do not leave keys inside the car and lock all the car doors every night when you return home,” Suffield police said in a statement.
