Bucs put Jamel Dean on injured reserve before Monday night game

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will play the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night without starting cornerback Jamel Dean, and the former Auburn standout won’t play in at least the NFL team’s following three games either.

Dean has been placed on injured reserve, the Buccaneers announced on Monday afternoon. NFL rules require players on IR to miss a minimum of four games.

Dean sustained a hamstring injury during Tampa Bay’s 51-27 victory over the New Orleans Saints on Oct. 13 and left the game after playing only 10 defensive snaps. In the Bucs’ other five games this season, Dean played every defensive snap.

Dean joined the Buccaneers in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, and his time with Tampa Bay has included a 31-9 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV on Feb. 7, 2021.

The Buccaneers and Ravens will square off in a game between 4-2 teams at 7:15 p.m. CDT Monday at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. ABC and ESPN will televise the game.

The earliest that Dean could return to Tampa Bay’s lineup would be on Nov. 24 against the New York Giants, when the Buccaneers return from their bye week.

The cornerback also will have to miss games against the Atlanta Falcons on Oct. 27, Chiefs on Nov. 4 and San Francisco 49ers on Nov. 10.
