Iconic Finebaum caller rips Kalen DeBoer: ‘This ain’t Alabama football’

One of the more iconic callers on “The Paul Finebaum Show” was all about perspective Monday when discussing Alabama’s 24-17 loss to Tennessee over the weekend.

Until he wasn’t.

Legend, who compared Alabama’s 40-35 loss to Vanderbilt in Nashville to catching your wife in bed with your neighbor, was back at it Monday, and he was fired up.

“We know the difference between sports and reality,” he started. “We don’t wish nobody no harm. We don’t want to see somebody hurt. Most of us don’t want to see no trees poisoned. We understand this is an escape from reality.”

With that said, Legend was about to let anyone off that easy, including Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer.

“They say a team takes on the personality of their coach,” he said, raising his voice. “Well, our team is undisciplined and soft. And, no doubt, coach DeBoer, are undisciplined and soft. You have come down here in the South. I don’t know who told you, coach DeBoer, that you can’t confront players. Let me tell you something: You can confront them, and they want to leave, tell they ass to hit the door.

“Alabama faking injuries, making jump shots behind offensive plays. What the hell kind of coaching style have we brought down here to the greatest program in the whole damn world?

“I blame you (athletic director) Greg Byrne. I blame your ass. Got a coach up there talking about soul searching. Who are you, Jim Baker? Well, I searched my soul, we don’t need to be soul searching, we need to do some coach searching.”

While Legend is quick to point out he will love and support his Crimson Tide, what was on the field didn’t look like his team.

“I’m pissed off at this crap,” he said. This ain’t Alabama football. And any Alabama football fan that accepts it ain’t a real damn fan.”
