Atlanta Falcons bring back first-rounder from Alabama again

Atlanta Falcons bring back first-rounder from Alabama again

Nine days after releasing linebacker Rashaan Evans from their practice squad, the Atlanta Falcons brought him back, re-signing the former Alabama All-American on Monday.

It’s the third time the Falcons have signed Evans, who led Atlanta with 159 tackles in the 2022 season.

The Falcons did not re-sign Evans after that season, and he played in nine games for the Dallas Cowboys in 2023.

Evans has not played during the 2024 season, but he did join Atlanta’s practice squad on Oct. 1. But dominoing personnel moves cost Evans his roster spot on Oct. 12.

When the Falcons restored opening-game linebacker Nate Landman to their active roster from injured reserve, they released cornerback Kevin King to create the spot for him. Atlanta then re-signed King for its practice squad, and to open a roster spot for the defensive back, the Falcons released Evans.

A 2018 first-round draft pick off Alabama’s 2017 CFP national-championship team, Evans played four seasons with the Tennessee Titans before signing a one-year contract with the Falcons in 2022.

Practice-squad members do everything that active-roster members do except play in games. However, each NFL team can elevate two members of its practice squad to active status for each game.

In their next game, the Falcons play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at noon CDT Oct. 27 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.
