Kalen DeBoer stresses emotional discipline for Alabama after Tennessee game

Alabama football wide receiver Kendrick Law turned a fourth-and-manageable into a fourth-and-good-luck.

Law, after a third down play, had an encounter with a Tennessee player that drew a flag for a personal foul as a result.

It set up fourth-and-22 with Alabama needing a touchdown in the final minutes of the game the Crimson Tide eventually lost to Tennessee. Alabama couldn’t convert and turned the ball over on downs.

Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer was asked to share what message he gave to Law, but DeBoer spoke generally.

“The message continues to be, with the team, it’s not just one, we’ve got to learn from those moments,” DeBoer said. “Those moments are big. Our choices, our decisions, our words, our actions, all of those things, they have to be focused on what’s best for our team. Obviously in that moment, we’re fighting to try to find a way to win.”

DeBoer also talked about the importance of controlling what you can, considering many elements and moments are things that can’t be controlled in a game.

“We have to make sure other people’s thoughts don’t become ours,” DeBoer said. “We’ve got to make sure if someone’s talking to us, we’ve got to learn to walk the other way, and be more emotionally disciplined in every facet.”

Next up, No. 15 Alabama will face No. 21 Missouri on Saturday (2:45 p.m. CT, ABC) at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
