For the third straight week in the NFL, a former Alabama defensive back has intercepted two passes in game.
On Monday night, Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey picked off Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield twice in the second quarter.
Humphrey’s pair of interceptions in Week 7 of the NFL’s 2024 season came after Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II had two interceptions in a 34-18 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders on Oct. 6 in Week 5 and Detroit Lions safety Brian Branch had two interceptions in a 47-9 victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Oct. 13 in Week 6.
A former Hoover High School football and track star, Humphrey got his first interception came in the end zone with Tampa Bay on Baltimore’s 3-yard line with 6:10 left in the first half.
Humphrey ended the Buccaneers’ next possession, too. He intercepted a Mayfield pass at the Baltimore 40-yard line with 2:58 remaining in the first half.
Humphrey posted the 65th NFL regular-season game in which an Alabama alumnus intercepted at least two passes. He became the 34th former Alabama player to turn the trick. Seventeen have done so more than once, with Pro Football Hall of Famer Don Hutson posting eight games with two interceptions.
Humphrey left the game for the locker room with a knee injury after the second interception.
The NFL record for the most interceptions in one game by an Alabama alumnus is four by defensive halfback Russ Craft in the Philadelphia Eagles’ 45-7 victory over the Chicago Cardinals on Sept. 24, 1950.
The only other former Crimson Tide player with more than two interceptions in a game is linebacker Lee Roy Jordan with three in a 38-10 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Nov. 4, 1973.
