Christmas positivity after a weak tourism season

Christmas positivity after a weak tourism season

Since June, Mallorca’s restaurants have been pointing to a fall in turnover compared with the spending-bonanza summers of 2022 and 2023.

The CAEB Restaurants Association has been lamenting a 20% fall. With the end to the ‘official’ season just over a week away, the association is now turning its attention to the Christmas period. And the news is more positive; in the centre of Palma anyway. The president, Juanmi Ferrer, says that restaurants in the city are already booked for Christmas lunches and dinners. There is a certain “euphoria”.

However, this is not the case across the whole island, while he says that spending on Christmas meals is being reduced “year after year”.

The average is between 30 and 50 euros per person, and restaurants are maintaining their prices. “We know that our customers have difficulties due to the high cost of living on the island, so the vast majority of us are choosing not to raise prices.”
