Black Myth: Wukong has been quite the highlight of 2024 in gaming, achieving incredible sales figures, building a devoted fan base, and cementing its place as one of the best action RPGs that you can get your hands on at the moment.
Perhaps to make the game more attractive, though, Game Science, in partnership with PM Studios, is also working on a Physical release of Wukong on the PS5. This will ensure that it has the same impact as its digital version—particularly with one pro-consumer decision that all of us can appreciate.
Black Myth: Wukong’s Physical Edition Will Include the Entire Game on Disc
Out of all the unbelievable games that came out this year, we argue that no other title deserves to get a physical release more than Wukong itself. Although people on the Xbox side are still left in the dark about when they’ll get to play it, at least the PlayStation folks get to add the game to their physical collection.
As the PS5 edition’s pre-orders go live, though, PM Studios made an incredible announcement that would swoon the hearts of all game preservationists out there, revealing that the game will come with everything on the disc—no day-one patches, no need for an internet connection.

Honestly, so many games today feel incomplete upon release, and players are forced to deal with large downloads just to access what they already paid for. With Wukong, what you see is what you get—everything’s ready to go right out of the box, and for that alone, Game Science does have our utmost respect.
Plus, the announcement feels like the devs are making a statement here, showing that they care about long-term game preservation and are committed to delivering a complete product up front.
It’s a rare step in an industry that’s becoming increasingly digital, and it’s something more companies should consider when preserving their games for future generations.
With this physical release, it is now a certainty that Wukong will be able to stand the test of time far longer than most of its contemporaries, and you know what? We hope Game Science sells as many physical copies as the game’s digital version did, only to inspire other developers to follow in its footsteps.
Despite All Its Hurdles, Black Myth: Wukong Will Remain One of 2024’s Most Memorable Titles
Now, Black Myth: Wukong’s success is undeniable. It has sold incredibly well since its launch, and the addition of a physical PS5 edition is only expected to further boost those numbers.
While it is a shame it got snubbed for contending for Game of the Year at the Golden Joystick awards, in what feels like a premonition of what’s to come with other award shows, we still got the game’s sheer popularity and critical reception to tell a different story, at the very least.
From its boss design and intricate environments to its standout character-action combat, there’s a reason, after all, why many consider it their personal GOTY even if it doesn’t win big awards.
The game’s sales alone reflect its massive success. It still remains one of the biggest games of 2024. At the end of the day, it will continue to dominate conversations as the one AAA offering from China that inspired other Eastern developers to follow in its footsteps with confidence.
