The Mossos d’Esquadra and the National Police have been carrying out a operation against a criminal organizationaccused of kidnapping a man, extorting his family and finally murdering him. The agents have arrested various people, of Mexican origin, who resided in different locations in the province of Barcelona. In the operation, nine people have been arrested so far, suspected of also belonging to a structure that was dedicated to methamphetamine trafficking.
The operation began in June, when the victim’s wife filed a complaint in Italy, as her husband had traveled to Spain and from there they had called him to tell him that He was kidnapped and they were asking for a very large sum of money. The Police began an investigation, which coincided with another opened by the Mossos d’Esquadra, when they found in the Tarragona area the body of a man whose disappearance had been reported in Italy.
The two bodies began a joint investigation, which culminated this Tuesday with two searches in Sant Andreu de Llavaneres, another in Sant Cebrià de Vallalta, one in Cabrils, and two more searches in the city of Barcelona, in the district of Sants-Montjuïc. . So far, according to sources in the case, there are nine people detained but it is not ruled out that there are more people involved.
Investigators have not found connections between the detainees and Mexican cartels, according to police sources, but they point out that the investigation is still continuing and new data may emerge in the records. The agents have found synthetic drugs. Both the kidnapping and the murder of the victim, originally from Eastern Europe, had not been publicly disclosed.
