Susan G. Komen's 'More than Pink Walk' returns to Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Those who have been impacted by breast cancer will gather this weekend for the Susan G. Komen’s “More than Pink Walk” in Austin.

This Sunday, the Susan G. Komen breast cancer organization is hosting its annual “More than Pink Walk” at the Barton Creek Square mall in southwest Austin.

The event will begin at 7:30 a.m. and the opening ceremony starts at 9 a.m. Registration is open online now and is free of charge.

The event aims to bring those impacted by breast cancer in any way together to highlight each others stories while raising funds for research and patient assistance.

“The breast cancer community needs more than us to raise that awareness and wear pink. We need to go out and raise funds to support the work that we do to end breast cancer and support our community,” said Monique Stensrud, executive director for Susan G. Komen of Central Texas.

Stensrud said one in eight people will be diagnosed with breast cancer within their lifetime. She shared that there really is no more than one degree in separation from knowing someone that has been impacted.

“Bringing this community together is really important to us, especially during the walk that is happening on Sunday,” Stensrud said.

The “More than Pink Walk” will include family activities like face painting, balloon animals and more. Susan G. Komen will be hosting another walk for San Antonio area participants on Nov. 2 at the Methodist Hospital in San Antonio.
