Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 has been one of the biggest games of 2024 and the biggest in the franchise. One of the biggest parts of this success has been Clive Standen’s portrayal of Lieutenant Titus in the game. Not only has Space Marine 2 received widespread acclaim, but Standen himself has become synonymous with the character.

We got a chance to talk to Clive Standen in an exclusive interview where he shared a lot of insights into his role. Standen’s love for Warhammer started in his childhood.
Growing up outside Nottingham, where Games Workshop’s headquarters were located, he was surrounded by the Warhammer community since childhood.
I grew up just outside Nottinghamshire, and Games Workshop’s head office there used to be this big fortress. No one really knew much of what went on inside there.
He recalls seeing the “big fortress” that housed the company and how many of his peers aspired to work there. Standen, along with his brother, spent time painting Warhammer figures, focusing primarily on Space Marines.
Taking on the role of Lieutenant Titus in Space Marine 2 was a natural fit for Standen. While Mark Strong voiced Titus in the original game, Standen knew he had to bring his unique touch to the character.
He sought to portray a more battle-hardened and edgy version of Titus, reflecting the character’s growth and experiences. Standen explained that Titus’ time in the Deathwatch significantly influenced his approach to the role.

For Standen, Titus has become “his guy,” a role that he’s not only proud of but one he feels deeply connected to. This bond could very well open doors to future Warhammer-related projects, including Henry Cavill’s upcoming show.
A Role in Henry Cavill’s Warhammer Project Would Be a Game Changer
Henry Cavill, another Warhammer fan, has been working on developing a Warhammer 40K project through Amazon Studios. Cavill’s love for the franchise is no secret. He has already shared how his love for Warhammer began as a kid, a passion that has stayed with him into adulthood.

Cavill has described working on the Warhammer project as “the greatest privilege” of his career. The project is currently in development with Amazon Studios, and while details are scarce, Cavill is confirmed as both a star and an executive producer.
His goal is to create a faithful adaptation of the Warhammer universe so that the lore and the worldbuilding are accurate and satisfying for the franchise’s fan base. Given his hands-on involvement in the creative process, Cavill’s vision for the project should do the franchise justice.
Given the shared passion between Cavill and Standen for Warhammer, it would make sense for Standen to be considered for a role in Cavill’s Warhammer project. Standen’s performance in Space Marine 2 proves that he understands what makes Warhammer characters tick.
And his lifelong exposure to the universe means he shares Cavill’s desire for authenticity. Standen’s portrayal of Titus has shown that he can handle the complexity of Warhammer 40K’s characters.
