A suspect in a Hazel Green road rage incident was arrested this week, according to a release from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
On Oct. 21, at approximately 8:10 a.m., sheriffs received a report of a “road rage” incident at the Hazel Green Walmart on Highway 231.
Initial investigation revealed that the incident began near Taft, Tenn., when the suspect, identified as James William Moore, allegedly followed the victim, struck the victim’s vehicle, and fired a gun in the direction of the vehicle.
The suspect then pursued the victim to the Walmart in Hazel Green, where he used a baseball bat to strike the victim’s vehicle before fleeing the scene, the release said. The victim reported no injuries.
Further investigation led to Moore’s arrest of James William Moore in Lincoln County, Tenn., on an unrelated matter, according to the release.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office said they are continuing to investigate this incident and working to determine the motive behind the suspect’s actions.
The incident comes two days after another driver was forced off the road and shots were fired.
On Oct. 19, at around 7:30 p.m., Madison County sheriffs received a report of a vehicle crash on northbound Highway 231 near Buckridge Drive in the Hazel Green community.
Deputies arrived at the scene to find evidence of gunshots fired at a single vehicle that had been forced off the roadway, the release said. The victims reported no injuries. The suspect’s vehicle is described as an older model pick-up truck.
The investigation into this incident is still ongoing, and the two incidents are not believed to be related and do not actively threaten the public, according to the release.
