A 66-year-old person died Tuesday in a Connecticut industrial accident in which they were struck by a payloader, police said.
Berlin Police Department Deputy Chief Drew Gallupe said police officers, an EMS crew, and the Fire Department responded to an industrial accident at CWPM, 415 Christian Lane, Berlin just before 1 p.m. for an “industrial accident involving a payloader and a person possibly trapped underneath.”
The personnel determined a “large industrial payloader had struck and seriously injured a worker at the facility, Gallupe said in an email.
“Officers and emergency responders administered life-saving efforts but the victim was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to The Hospital of Central” Connecticut,” he said.
Gallupe said the victim was a 66-year-old employee of CWPM who is is not being identified pending notification of their family.
The Berlin Police Department will be investigating the accident, assisted by Midstate Accident Reconstruction Squad, Gallupe said.
He said OSHA also was contacted to respond and assist with the investigation.
