Alabama Republican explains voting for Kamala Harris in new ad: ‘I voted for Trump … I can’t do it again’

A small businessman from Alabama who twice voted for Donald Trump but is casting a ballot for Kamala Harris in November is featured in a new national ad explaining why he’s changed his mind in 2024.

“I’m a lifelong Republican, and I voted for Trump twice,” says Mobile small businessman Kyle Sweetser, identified only as “Kyle” in the ad from two pro-Harris political action committees. “But I can’t do it again.”

Sweetser, a general contractor from Mobile who also spoke at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago and is part of the “Business Leaders for Harris” group of conservative businesspeople supporting the Democratic nominee, said Trump’s proposed national sales tax on imported goods will hurt everyday Americans.

“He’ll make everything more expensive for regular people all while giving tax breaks to billionaires,” Sweetser says in the ad from Future Forward — a massive super PAC that has outspent both the Harris and Trump campaigns on television ads in the tail-end of the election cycle — and Republican Accountability PAC, a group comprised of former Trump voters “who will never vote for him again.”

Harris, claims Sweetser in the 30-second ad, “is for regular people. She wants a tax cut for 100 million Americans, so we keep more of our hard-earned money.:

The Mobile businessman proclaims himself a “proud Republican but this year I’m voting for Kamala Harris.”

Sweetser earlier told AL.com that his family was harassed and threatened over his outspokenness against Trump.

“It’s insane when you speak out against Trump as a Republican,” he said. “What comes after you is mind-boggling.”
