‘Felt like you were literally talking to the Kal-El’

X-Men’97 creator Beau DeMayo is still reminiscing Henry Cavill’s tenure as Superman. The writer and showrunner took to his social media to heap praises on the former Kal-El while responding to a statement by Amy Adams, who also showered compliments on him. DeMayo even went on to describe exactly why his Superman worked.

This comes after the latest statement from James Gunn, the director of the upcoming Superman, which sees David Corenswet as the titular hero. Gunn reportedly promised fans that his performance would blow people away with his performance. The filmmaker is the co-chief of DC Studios and he let go of Cavill after deciding to reboot the franchise.

X-Men’97 creator Beau DeMayo has been extremely vocal about the kind of media he consumes and is a fan of on his social media. The former crew member of the animated show, who was fired ahead of its release, has spoken about his projects as well as other material he would like to work on.

He recently heaped praises on former Superman Henry Cavill in a tweet. The writer responded to a statement by Amy Adams on Variety, saying that Cavill was a definitive Superman and regardless of who replaces him in upcoming iterations, the Argylle star was still ‘brilliant’ in his role.

DeMayo echoed her sentiments and went on to describe how Cavill embodied Kal-El’s sincerity and optimism, something which he claimed to even see in his performance in The Witcher. DeMayo said,

Henry Cavill’s final moment as Superman came in the DCEU’s Black Adam, where he appeared in a post-credits scene, hinting at a potential (now pointless) clash with Dwayne Johnson’s character.

While James Gunn has an impressive track record with the Guardians of the Galaxy films and Peacemaker, his decision to give a soft reboot to the DCEU and replace Henry Cavill was met with sharp criticism from fans. Cavill had only confirmed his return a few months ago and had allegedly left his role in The Witcher to come on board as Superman.

However, Gunn chose to replace him with a younger version in his own directorial Superman for the DCU. Cavill was replaced by David Corenswet, who Gunn recently claimed would blow people away with his performance. He said at the NYCC (via Games Radar),

The movie is going extraordinarily well. We’re deep in the process of editing. David Corenswet is going to blow people the f*ck don’t think anyone really understands the depth of this guy’s talent, dramatically, comedically, he’s the best physical action star I’ve probably ever worked with.

He also stated that the film was in the post-production phase and even praised Rachel Brosnahan, who will be playing Lois Lane in the film.
