The province has started the third stage of the landfill search for the remains of two homicide victims, Morgan Harris and Marcedes Myran.
A facility pad is almost finished and excavators have started moving material on top of the targeted zone at the private Prairie Green Landfill, northwest of Winnipeg.
The engineering assessment of the targeted zone has been completed and the recruitment of workers continues, the province said Wednesday.
The excavation and search of the targeted zone where the remains are believed to be located is expected to start later this fall.
Myran, Harris, Rebecca Contois, and a fourth unidentified woman are victims of Jeremy Skibicki. In July, the 35-year-old was found guilty of four counts of first-degree-murder and is serving a life sentence.
“Our government is making significant progress in our compassionate search of the Prairie Green Landfill,” said Premier Wab Kinew. “This is about doing the right thing and sending a message to all Manitobans that you matter and deserve dignity. When someone goes missing, we go looking.”
