AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Wednesday morning, the UT Silver Spurs delivered hundreds of Halloween costumes to east Austin elementary schools.
The honorary student organization started with the Austin Independent School District and delivered costumes to Norman Sims Elementary, Harris Elementary, Ortega Elementary, Casey Elementary and Williams Elementary, according to the organization.
The NLP has a “unique partnership” with Austin ISD “that is the foundation for the program’s and participants’ success,” according to the Texas Longhorns website.
Norman Sims Assistant Principal Charlene Andrews told KXAN how helpful it was to receive these costumes.
“This is an exciting opportunity. We have our trunk or treat coming up in a couple of days. So receiving these costumes are a great opportunity for the students to dress up, have fun and really embrace the importance of being safe and responsible, kind — which are our three rules here at Norman Sims,” she said.
This is all in support of the of the Neighborhood Longhorns Program (NLP), which is a nonprofit education outreach organization that offers tutoring, on-campus experiences and scholarships to from 2nd to 8th grade, according to the website.
