Mexico Gets Its Very Own The Office!
Introducing La Oficina, brought to life by Prime Video, Amazon MGM Studios, and Gary “Gaz” Alazraki’s Máquina Vega! This fresh series draws inspiration from the cult classic BBC original starring Ricky Gervais, which later evolved into the much-loved U.S. version that people cannot stop binge-watching.
Set in the city of Aguascalientes, the show revolves around a family business sort of like the Prince family, called Jabones Olimpo. Running this operation is Jerónimo Ponce III, who, like many bosses in this series, finds himself in way over his head. And as the story as ways goes, the employees must navigate the daily grind while managing the chaos of working under a, well, “quirky” manager.
Speaking about the show Alazraki shared his excitement as reported by Variety,
I’ve wanted to adapt ‘The Office’ since I bought the Ricky Gervais DVDs in 2003, Everything about the humor and the format makes me consider it the bravest comedy I’ve ever seen … it’s an honor for me to have the opportunity to do this version, ‘La Oficina,’ with such a talented partner as Marcos, whom I have admired since all his videoclips became viral sensations. I thank Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant for trusting us with their baby and there is no better partner than Prime Video to try to make all of Mexico laugh about the work experience in our country.
Alazraki will take the helm as director and executive producer, with Marcos Bucay stepping in as showrunner. La Oficina will stream exclusively in Latin America, Brazil, and Spain.
