Carolina Panthers bring back Chandler Wooten again

Carolina Panthers bring back Chandler Wooten again

Since the Carolina Panthers signed linebacker Chandler Wooten off the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad on Oct. 18, 2022, the NFL team has waived the former Auburn linebacker three times. Each time, the Panthers quickly re-signed Wooten for their practice squad.

That happened again this week. Coming off the most active game of his NFL career, Wooten was waived by Carolina on Tuesday. Thursday, Wooten was back at practice with the Panthers as a practice-squad member.

Wooten started this season on the practice squad. He joined the active roster on Oct. 2 and played in the next three games – 18 special-teams plays in a 36-10 loss to the Chicago Bears on Oct. 6, eight defensive snaps and 17 special-teams plays in a 38-20 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Oct. 13 and 51 defensive snaps and 13 special-teams plays in a 40-7 loss to the Washington Commanders on Sunday.

Carolina played against Washington without linebackers Josey Jewell and Claudin Cherelus because of hamstring injuries. Both players are back at practice this week.

Wooten could play from the practice squad, too. Each NFL team is allowed to elevate two practice-squad members to active status for each game.

The Panthers play the Denver Broncos at 3:25 p.m. CDT Sunday at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver.
