Don’t Expect Jack Quaid to be Impressed by Meg Ryan’s Iconic Performance That Put Her on the Map: ‘A very unique embarrassment’

Jack Quaid stole our hearts away as the very lovable yet sometimes infuriating Hughie Campbell in The Boys. Time and again, he has established himself as an extremely capable actor. After all, he is half Dennis Quaid and half Meg Ryan! Speaking of the rom-com queen, almost a decade ago, the actress took a break from Hollywood to focus on herself and develop herself as a human being.

She finally returned to business last year with What Happens Later, a rom-com that she not only starred in but also directed and wrote. And while she has been in a number of flicks since 1981, her role as Sally Albright in When Harry Met Sally, will always be a fan favorite. However, despite the fact that the rom-com holds a very iconic scene that made the world fall in love with her, her kids couldn’t care less about it.

How Meg Ryan’s Iconic Scene Embarrassed Jack Quaid

In 1989, Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal starred opposite each other in the unforgettable When Harry Met Sally. Rewatch after rewatch, we realize that the film is completely timeless whether you watch it today or watch it 10 years in the future, the magic will always be the same.

In the iconic scene, Harry and Sally make a stop at the diner where he proudly comments that he has never had a woman complain about his…talents in bed. When Sally asked how could he be so sure that they weren’t faking it, he simply shrugged off the idea. This conversation led to the hilarious scene where Sally faked an org*sm right in the middle of a bustling diner, much to Harry’s (and others) shock.

While fans loved every second of the scene, Jack Quaid might find it a tad bit embarrassing. It’s his mother, after all. In conversation with comedian Carol Burnett for Interview magazine, Ryan revealed a hilarious anecdote revolving around the scene and Quaid.

Burnett thanked her “for so many wonderful moments in” her film, singling out the org*sm scene asking, “You can’t top that. Did you do it more than once?” Ryan revealed that they actually did it “over and over and over again.”

She then recalled a phone call she had with Quaid earlier that day. As it turned out, the actor was staying at a New York hotel right across from the deli where his mother shot the scene. He told Ryan that there was an arrow pointing at the table where she and Crystal sat while filming the scene.

It’s funny, my son just called me this morning and he’s in New York staying at a hotel that’s right across the street from Katz’s Deli. My daughter was here and everybody was on speaker, and they were like, ‘Mom, this is a very unique embarrassment.’ [Laughs] He said, ‘You know you can go into that deli and there’s an arrow pointing down to the table where you shot that scene.’

Needless to say, her son was definitely embarrassed!

Jack Quaid Talks about His Mother’s Scene

Back in 2019, Quaid paid a visit to Jimmy Kimmel Live where he talked about The Boys, which was about to be released. During his conversation, he revealed that Ryan came to visit him on set on the day they were shooting Homelander’s gory scene.

Instead of being repulsed by it all, she was actually pretty into it, or as Quaid put it, she was “digging it.” The conversation naturally shifted to When Harry Met Sally and the famous “eating” scene.

When asked if Quaid had seen the film, he replied that he had just watched it a year before the interview despite the film having completed its 30th anniversary.

If you are wondering what his reaction was to it all, you might not expect what he said next. Instead of cringing at his fake org*sm, Quaid was actually so proud of his mother in the movie that he ended up crying.

I saw it for the first time last year…And I was doing a rom-com called ‘Plus One.’ I’m doing a rom-com, I have to watch ‘THE’ rom-com. I watched it. I was home alone. I started crying because I was so proud. I called her immediately.

He apologized to Ryan for not seeing the film earlier, but much to his surprise, the actress revealed that she had also seen the film only once in her life. Well, at least his reaction to the scene was much better than we’d expect!

When Harry Met Sally is available to rent/buy on Prime Video.
