Drug investigation turns up fentanyl, crack, nets three arrests

Three men were arrested during a narcotics investigation in Waterbury on Thursday that led to the seizure of fentanyl pills and crack cocaine.

The investigation was carried out in the area of Bronson and Bishop Streets after police received numerous recent reports of drug activity in the neighborhood, according to Lt. Ryan Bessette of the Waterbury Police Department.

Bessette said the investigation was a collaborative effort between the police department’s Vice and Intelligence Unit, Auto Theft Task Force, Gang Task Force and the Connecticut State Police Violent Crimes Task Force. Authorities reportedly seized 40 controlled substance pills, several of which contained fentanyl, an unspecified amount of crack cocaine and $282, according to Bessette.

Dazown Mills, 33, was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of narcotics with intent to sell and a single count each of possession of a hallucinogenic with intent to sell, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and tampering with evidence. He was held on a $75,000 bond and was expected to be arraigned Friday in Waterbury Superior Court.

Troy Crawford, 28, was also arrested on charges of possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of hallucinogenic with intent to sell, possession of controlled substance with intent to sell and interfering with an officer. He was released on a promise to appear and is expected to face a judge on Nov. 5.

Bessette noted that Crawford has a lengthy criminal history involving assaults and failure to appear charges. He was also found to have a warrant out for his arrest for a violation of probation.

Marquell Jones, 31, was charged with possession of a hallucinogenic with intent to sell and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. He posted a $20,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned on Nov. 5.

Bessette said Jones’s criminal history includes numerous prior drug arrests and convictions.
