Defensive tackle Byron Young hasn’t played for the Philadelphia Eagles this season, and the former Alabama standout definitely won’t play in the NFL team’s next four games.
On Friday, the Eagles announced Young had been placed on injured reserve because of a hamstring injury. By NFL rules, an injured-reserve designation requires the player to miss at least four games.
Young played in 54 games, with 26 starts, at Alabama, where he was a member of the undefeated 2020 CFP national-championship game. But he’s had a harder time getting on the field in the NFL.
A third-round draft choice of Las Vegas in 2023, Young played 99 defensive snaps in six games as a rookie with the Raiders.
In 2024, Young survived Las Vegas’ initial roster reduction from the preseason size to the regular-season limit on Aug 27. But when the Raiders were awarded defensive back Thomas Harper and defensive tackle Jonah Laulu as waiver claims on Aug. 28, Young was one of the players waived to create roster spots for the claimed pair.
Young then became a waiver claim on Aug. 29, as Philadelphia did not let him reach free agency. But Young has been designated as a game-day inactive for all six of the Eagles’ contests this season.
