Elba’s Alvin Henderson became the state’s all-time leading rusher Friday night with a 7-yard run in the third quarter against Florala.
The record-breaking moment was announced to the large crowd at Mack Wood Stadium but the game was not stopped.
The previous record holder, Alexandria’s Mac Campbell (with 9,839 yards) was at the game and was set to present Henderson with a certificate and the game ball after the game to mark the historic milestone.
Henderson needed just 104 yards entering the game to break the record.
