Metaphor: ReFantazio – How to Change Archetypes

Metaphor: ReFantazio will require you to know how to change archetypes if you wish to make it far. One of the main mechanics of this game, just like in Persona, involves the protagonists summoning creatures to fight in turn-based battles.

Metaphor: ReFantazio showcases approximately 40 archetypes, categorized into various classes. Many of these are improved variations of the 14 basic archetypes available.

Due to this mechanic, one of the key features of the game is the ability to switch archetypes between battles to form the best possible party when facing enemies. This guide explains how to change archetypes in Metaphor: ReFantazio.

Reaching the Point in the Story to Unlock This Mechanic

Metaphor: ReFantazio – How to Change Archetypes
To be able to change archetypes in Metaphor: ReFantazio you need to defeat a particular boss.

One of the best-developed aspects of Metaphor: ReFantazio is its story and overall narrative. The protagonist must build bonds with different people to unlock new archetypes and recruit characters into their story.

From the very beginning, the game allows players to grasp the combat mechanics and start understanding how archetypes work. To gain the ability to switch archetypes, you need to reach a certain point in the story.

The Warrior is one of the 40+ archetypes that are available for combat and directly relates to the ability to switch archetypes. You unlock this archetype after advancing through a specific dungeon early in the game.

In addition to forming a bond with Strohl, you’ll need to defeat a boss to begin switching archetypes between battles. This will then leave you at another location, where you will learn how this feature works. You can also check our review of Metaphor: ReFantazio.
